If you are fortunate enough to have a cherry tree in your yard, I am sure you don’t need me to tell you how much enjoyment you can get from it. Cherry pie, cherry cobbler, cherry pie with ice cream, cherry pie with whipped cream… Simply satisfying your craving for sweet cherries by eating those that your tree produces is a rewarding experience in and of itself. A rewarding experience would also include looking out the back window and seeing a magnificent and glorious cherry tree. The mere fact that you have a cherry tree causes most people to be incredibly impressed. This is because, to non-gardeners, cherry trees are typically thought of as some sort of exotic plant.
However, along with the joys that a cherry tree can bring, there are also a lot of annoyances that come along with it. They appear to be more successful than any other plant in the world at drawing in unwanted animals. It seems like almost every day there is a new kind of pestilence swarming the tree, and they are all attempting to get a taste of the delicious fruits that it bears. If they want to eat delicious fruits, then they should grow their own trees if they want to do so. However, I can’t say that I blame them.
Birds feeding on the fruit that falls from trees is one of the primary and most persistent challenges that the vast majority of people face. It might appear that getting rid of this pest is an almost impossible task. After all, they can sneak in from any direction and make a hasty exit with the cherries in their possession. They also have the option of hiding in the tree branches while they consume food all day. The adaptability of a bird is undeniably one of its strengths. Those pesky critters are notoriously difficult to capture or drive away. However, there are a number of different strategies that can be utilized to discourage birds from entering your home.
Placing a fake owl in the yard around the house is the most common method for keeping birds away. If you find an animal that typically consumes birds and buys a plastic version of it, real birds will typically have the instinct to avoid it even if it looks identical to the real animal. These can be things like snakes, owls, hawks, or even scarecrows (okay, so maybe scarecrows don’t normally eat birds). But for some reason, they have a terrible effect on the birds. You should be able to purchase these at your neighborhood gardening center the vast majority of the time. If you look online, you should be able to find something that will serve your purposes, whether you want a different version or a more accurate representation of real life.
In most cases, acquiring a plastic animal of some kind will stop the birds from being a nuisance for at least a little while. Nevertheless, there are some birds that are either incredibly brave or incredibly stupid, and they will continue to eat from your tree. The birds will be deterred from approaching too closely by virtually any surface or object that reflects light or makes noise. Reflective tape that is specifically designed to spook birds is one of my personal favorites to use. You can get this at any store that sells gardening supplies. When I want to scare people as much as possible, I typically use this in conjunction with a wide variety of wind chimes. When you combine a plastic animal with reflective objects and noisy items, almost all of the birds in the area will be too frightened to come anywhere near it.
